Mrs. Gladys Smith Hogan of Brenham, Texas

January 21, 1916  –  July 5, 2016

Having enjoyed a long full life, Mrs. Gladys Smith Hogan, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2016.

Mrs. Hogan, a long time educator par excellence, was once an elementary teacher, a high school English teacher, Supervisor of Instruction and, for 18 years, served on the Board of the Brenham Independent School District.  She was later appointed to the Board of Trustees of Blinn College.

Additionally, Mrs. Hogan was a business woman.  She was Co-Owner of Hogan Funeral Home which she managed after the death of her husband, B. T. Hogan, Sr.  Mrs. Hogan also was a Real Estate Broker for 25 years.

A lifelong member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, she was active as long as her health permitted.  She was recognized by numerous professional, charitable, civic and community organizations.  In 1996, Mrs. Hogan received the “Woman of the Year” Award from the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.

She leaves to mourn, a son Booker T. Hogan, Jr., (Ruby), daughters Mildred Hogan Lord (Edward), Patricia Hogan Williams (Connie); grandchildren Lisa Lord Pearson (Michael), Adria D. Lord, Edward Lord III (Dawn), Jonathan Lord (April), C. Brian Williams, Benjamin Williams (Shawn), Christopher Williams (Christal), Catherine Hogan Lewis, Pamela A. Hogan, Byron T Hogan; 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Saturday, July 9, 2016, 5 – 7 p.m. at the Hogan Funeral Home 1002 W. Alamo.  The funeral service, will be on Sunday, July 10 at 3:00p.m., at St. John A.M. E. Church, 1012 East Main St., Brenham, Texas 77833.

Mr. Ira Evans of Gay Hill, Texas

Mr. Ira Evans was born on April 27, 1927.  He was born in Gay Hill, Texas to Willie Mae McCowan and Johnny Evans. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Main Street Baptist Church in Brenham, Texas. Ira Evans attended Pickard High School in Brenham, Texas where he met the love of his life and they graduated in 1946. Ira furthered his education by becoming a licensed Electrician. He united in Holy Matrimony, December 24, 1947, to Dolores Fields. To this union four children were born. Through his children he was blessed with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
